Transformation

Galleri Format
22.09.–30.10.2022

Håndverk+ was established in 2017 with the goal of creating a meeting point between makers and designers. Håndverk+ showcases traditional craft in a contemporary coat, and has both cultural and commercial value, with innovation and the exchange of knowledge as the foundation.

This year’s theme is TRANSFORMATION, tapping into political and societal shifts which undoubtedly affect how we express ourselves through aesthetics and function. To transform means to recreate and to reshape. It can address a radical transformation where objects of the past are given a contemporary reinterpretation. It encapsulates new perspectives on traditional materials, methods and archetypes. Some of this year's participants have a personal approach to transformation relating to the body, to movement or to nature. In other interpretations, industrial offcuts of wood and textile are reimagined as resources rather than waste.

There lies a risk in unsettling something deep-seated when we touch upon the ingrained, the safe and the traditional. At the same time, transformation is a tool that lets us give tribute to cultural heritage, by creating new interpretations, new stories and new objects to carry on the tradition. This enables new identity and new safe spaces for future generations

The project’s goal is to introduce new talent, while simultaneously encompassing established figures within the industry who share their knowledge and enthusiasm for quality craft and design. This year we have 19 creators presenting everything from abstract sculpture to functional furniture, from everyday objects we usually take for granted to 1700-century objects reimagined in a modern context.
